Xbox Live Gold services will be unlocked on Xbox 360 this weekend in the UK.
Microsoft says: “Try Xbox Live Gold membership at no additional cost on the Xbox 360 platform only from 12:00PM (GMT) on Friday 23rd May 2014 to 23:59 (GMT) on Sunday 25th May 2014.”

From next month, the company will no longer gate entertainment apps behind an Xbox Live Gold subscription. It will offer a refund to current subscribers who no longer wish to use the service in light of the upcoming changes.
